Our current turnover is around £1.5m and this is forever rising with the new contracts we win in our region. When we first started back in July 2004, we really wanted an instant opportunity, and in franchising we recognised a chance to invest in a system which was tried and tested. Jani-King's guarantee to deliver £264,000 annualised turnover within an 18-month period was a huge attraction. We sought a business that would experience high growth and knowing we had a powerful sales force behind us along with great operational support made Jani-King's opportunity stand out from other franchises.

We were provided with a contract from day one with the assistance of our Operations Manager who walked us through setting up our accounts, schedules, task durations and employee training. Although our launch was slow to begin with, it presented us with the opportunity to find our feet. Neither of us had worked in the commercial cleaning industry and this was a wonderful opportunity for us to discover the true potential this market actually has. We have progressed considerably as we were keen to proactively acquire as much knowledge and experience in the beginning stages. This knowledge and experience is now proving to be very useful as we are better able to handle issues as and when they arise.

Within a few months of starting, our franchise was turning over £22,000 per month. Jani King had fulfilled their 18 month obligation within the first six months and more contracts were to be phased in over the forthcoming weeks, so we be almost doubling our turnover. We continued our efforts and with the help of Jani King we were able to develop skills in specialist services including carpet cleaning, floor care and window cleaning - which earn higher margins and bring added value to our clients. I think the fact that we are passionate and really motivated to make our business a success has been really important. We were both very determined to succeed and believed we possessed the ideal mix of skills for a successful business partnership.

In May 2006, we hit our first milestone in turning over £500,000, achieving this goal within two years of trading. This growth has been achieved by working proactively to generate our own business, which has supplemented the cleaning contracts we have received centrally from the Jani King (GB) sales force.We are very fortunate to be part of a franchise that is able to service customers such as Odeon Cinema, H&M Hennies, Pizza Hut, Dorethy Perkins and many other high street brands. We simply would not have access to these brands without being part of the Jani King network.Over the last year or so, we have seen a big difference in the calibre of franchisees that have been recruited which is also very promising for us. There have also been quite a few interesting developments with talks of partnership with Jani King (GB) Ltd. In a recent Quarterly Review Meeting, we also discussed the real asset value our business has.

We put our business success down to the simple Jani-King philosophy that seeing is believing. We need to ensure that the customer sees that they are receiving a service which provides good value and good quality at all times. Customer retention in this business is the key to success as and so the service levels our teams offer is crucial at all times. Having the right “can do” attitude, being focused and knowing what we want from the business has helped a lot and ensured that our team also has the right approach.

We have always had a fantastic working relationship with the Jani-King head office team. We urge any new franchisee to learn as much as possible from the Jani-King training programmes, get into good habits and work hard from day one.

The £2 million mark is our next goal and we aim to reach this a little quicker now that we have our structure in place. We plan to maintain the level of growth with all the challenges. We hope to continue our success and grow our business indefinitely.
